So how about WordPress?
Today we got some questions about WordPress. “Are you going to fork WordPress?” one asks, someone else asks: “Why do you use WordPress if you’re going to write your own publishing system?”. These questions make sense, by the end of the day you’re now looking at a Wordpress blog . The only reason why we installed this blog is because our publishing system is far from finished - we don’t even have a (definitive) database design - and people want to keep track of our progression. We chose not to fork WordPress because it would simply be too much hacking and using workarounds, remember,
WordPress is meant for web-logging, and for web-logging only.

Because the discussion about a new, universal messaging system was started by me on the PC-Active forum (sorry in Dutch) and I decided to “fork” WordPress (sorry, also in Dutch), I feel obliged to react to the above :).
Just as the author of this message states, before your own system works, you are month further. In the meantime you want to publish about it. In my case I even have a bigger problem because I also write articles for the Dutch computermagazine PC-Active and those articles are supported by articles in my Wikka wiki. On another platform I also have a phpBB form, and that is why I got frustrated by three different systems. My goal is to hack those three together. In the first steps I will freeze the current state of all three and then rip out subsystems and replace them by my own. So it is technically a fork, although in the end only the best ideas behind thos three will survive…
